2026 KY Early Hearing Detection & Intervention Summit
The 2nd Early Hearing Detection & Intervention (EHDI) Summit will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 in Louisville, KY. This event is hosted by Kentucky's Early Hearing Detection & Intervention (EHDI) program, which is housed within the Office for Children with Special Health Care Needs (OCSHCN) in Kentucky's Department for Public Health (DPH). The EHDI program is responsible for ensuring that all of Kentucky's children are screened for hearing loss within 1 month of age and receive timely follow-up diagnostic and intervention services if needed. Our goal for the EHDI Summit is to educate attendees on data, best practices, and other information related to childhood hearing loss and provide an opportunity for discussion and collaboration in effort to strengthen Kentucky's EHDI infrastructure.
Join us for an in-depth look at the latest guidelines, treatment strategies, and interventions in early hearing detection. Topics include early intervention, mental health and emotional needs of families and children with hearing loss, importance of early identification and special considerations when working with young children who are deafblind, and current information regarding congenital Cytomegalovirus and hearing loss.
Target Audience
The target audience for this event is medical home providers such as pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and other primary care providers, hospital screening staff, midwives, audiologists, otolaryngologists, speech-language pathologists, early intervention providers, and families of deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) children.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify characteristics of early intervention services that lead to optimal outcomes.
2. Discuss congenital Cytomegalovirus diagnosis and its potential impact on hearing diagnosis and intervention.
3. Identify two ways in which a parent perspective should inform the work of professionals within the early hearing detection and intervention community.
