Violence, substance use, and anxiety or depression explain 80% of maternal deaths. The impact of these 3 factors on maternal deaths and injuries is preventable. Early identification will reduce this impact. Knowledge, screening tools, strategies and resources for healthcare providers and helping professionals to use with patients is provide in the learning management training developed for providers.

Target Audience

Healthcare providers who treat pregnant or postpartum women.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss how 'The Big 3' (violence, substance use, and anxiety or depression) can lead to maternal injuries or deaths (Knowledge)
2. Articulate Willingness and confidence in talking with patients and other providers about how 'The Big 3' increases risk of maternal injuries or deaths.
3. Review the needed skills in asking patients about 'The Big 3' as routine maternal injury prevention.
4. Explain consistency in follow up, safety planning, and referrals as needed to support patients needing care or support for 'The Big 3' or related factors threatening maternal health.
