Module 4 - Referrals for The Big 3
Violence, substance use, and anxiety or depression explain 80% of maternal deaths. The impact of these 3 factors on maternal deaths and injuries is preventable. Early identification will reduce this impact. Knowledge, screening tools, strategies and resources for healthcare providers and helping professionals to use with patients is provide in the learning management training developed for providers.
There are three actions that are recommended taking after administering The Big 3 Screener: make a safety plan, give referrals, and breif education.
Target Audience
Healthcare providers who treat pregnant or postpartum women.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify appropriate response actions based on The Big 3 Screener results: safety planning, providing referrals, and sharing brief education
2. Explain the three steps for creating a trauma-informed safety plan
3. Summarize key national-and state-level referrals for The Big 3
