Module 1 - Introduction to Injuries and Deaths Among Pregnant and Postpartum Patients
Violence, substance use, and anxiety or depression explain 80% of maternal deaths. The impact of these 3 factors on maternal deaths and injuries is preventable. Early identification will reduce this impact. Knowledge, screening tools, strategies and resources for healthcare providers and helping professionals to use with patients is provide in the learning management training developed for providers.
Target Audience
Healthcare providers who treat pregnant or postpartum women.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the Big 3 factors associated with injuries and deaths
2. Define injuries and deaths among pregnant and postpartum patients
3. Recognize the disparate rates of death by race/ethnicity
4. Understand the role as a helping professional in preventing injuries and deaths
