The UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network 2025 Cancer Care Conference is a learning and networking opportunity for healthcare professionals across the Commonwealth. UK faculty, regional and state cancer care leaders, and national speakers will present information to help improve the quality of cancer care at community hospitals.

Target Audience

Physicians, Pharmacists, Nurses, Social Workers, Public Health Professionals, Students, Administrators, and Program Coordinators. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Review quality performance standards, processes, and structure for ACoS Commission on Cancer accreditation to improve the quality of cancer care and treatment
  • Discuss best practices for oncology services and programs among peers
  • Describe recent events and trends in cancer care, research, and treatment
  • Recognize social and cultural barriers to cancer care and health equity
  • Identify opportunities to use cancer data to improve programs and services

The inaugural Lung Cancer Forum brings together primary care providers, nurses, and care teams dedicated to advancing best practices in screening and patient navigation. Sessions will feature early detection strategies, biopsy and treatment updates, and emerging research shaping the future of lung cancer care. With an emphasis on strengthening referral networks and communication between primary and specialty providers, the forum offers a unique opportunity to foster collaboration and improve outcomes for patients.

  • Identify quality standards and best practices in lung cancer care, with a focus on early detection and evolving treatment approaches.

  • Analyze strategies to enhance collaboration and coordination among care teams involved in screening and patient navigation.

PALLIATIVE CARE SYSTEM

Palliative care is a shared approach integrated across all roles in a cancer center. This interactive, interdisciplinary workshop explores primary palliative care skills for physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, administrators, and other team members.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Apply key palliative communication and symptom-management skills in oncology practice.

  • Identify psychosocial, spiritual, and practical needs using available resources.

  • Employ primary palliative care principles in care for advanced or relapsed malignancies.

  • Illustrate when to seek specialty consultation and strategies for building local capacity.

  • Integrate an opioid risk tool and safety consents when prescribing opioids.
