Dr. Padmaja Sudhakar is originally from Chennai, India, where she completed her medical degree from Madras Medical College, followed by a residency in ophthalmology and a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at the prestigious  Medical research Foundation, Unit of Sankara Nethralaya , Chennai, India. She then served as a  comprehensive ophthalmologist and neuro-ophthalmologist at Sankara Nethralaya for about 6 years. In 2006 she moved to the United States along with her family. She completed a 2 year neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Kellogg eye center, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. To enhance her skillsets in neuro-ophthalmology, she pursued a residency in neurology at the University of Kentucky. She then joined the University of Kentucky as a fulltime faculty in the department of neurology and ophthalmology. She also serves as the medical director of neurosciences In Chandler Hospital at University of Kentucky and is also the general neurology division’s service director. She has  widely published in the field of neuro-ophthalmology, neurology  and ophthalmology. She serves as a reviewer for ophthalmology and neurology journals. She is the clinical competency chair for the neurology residency program at University of Kentucky and the grand rounds director for the department of neurology. She has won travel awards from the American Academy of Neurology, American neurological association and American headache society. She is the recipient of several  teaching awards from ophthalmology and neurology and the Academy of Medical educator’s award for excellence in teaching , mentoring, innovation and leadership from University of Kentucky. She also won the prestigious AB Baker award for teaching from the American Academy of Neurology.  She has served as the principal investigator for several NORDIC trials and as a sub investigator for several clinical trials in neurology.
