Meriem Bensalem Owen, MD, FACNS, FANA, FAES

Dr. Meriem Bensalem-Owen is a Professor of Neurology and the Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the University of Kentucky, which holds the highest accreditation (Level 4) by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). She also holds the Robert and Jeanne Nyere Professorship in Epilepsy Research.
She specializes in the care of adults with epilepsy with a special focus on the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy. Driven by her passion for education, she founded Kentucky’s first and only accredited epilepsy fellowship training program.
In addition to her role as a clinician at a busy academic medical center, Dr. Bensalem-Owen is actively involved in several professional organizations. She is the immediate Past-President of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) and she is the chair of the Accreditation Committee of the NAEC. She is member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), ACNS, American Epilepsy Society (AES) and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. She is a fellow of the ACNS, AES, and a fellow of the American Neurological Association (ANA).
Dr. Bensalem-Owen is deeply committed to increasing epilepsy awareness and supporting all those impacted by seizures and epilepsy. She is the current President of the Board of Directors for the Epilepsy Foundation Kentuckiana (EFKY).
