Date & Time of Session - 4/24/26 - from 12:00 - 1:00PM

Overview
In 2025, the American Thoracic Society (ATS) published new guidelines for diagnosis and management of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). These guidelines provide updates on important recommendations including duration of therapy and use of corticosteroids in patients with severe CAP. They also provide recommendations for two new questions not previously discussed in the 2019 guidelines. These recommendations are in regard to prescribing empiric antibiotics in patients with suspected CAP and a positive viral test and utilization of lung ultrasound for diagnosis of CAP. This presentation will review these updated recommendations and the data the ATS used to formulate them.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Summarize the guideline’s key recommendations and the certainty of evidence behind each
2. Analyze the evidence that informed the guidelines
3. Discuss important limitations and controversies
4. Apply the guideline’s recommendations to common clinical scenarios
5. Identify where judgement or local practice should modify guidelines applications
