Date & Time of Session - 9/29/26 - from 12-1 PM
Location:Todd234 - Tuesdays & MN263 - Fridays
Overview
Acute ischemic stroke management has traditionally limited IV thrombolysis to patients presenting within 4.5 hours of last-known-well. However, emerging evidence and updated guideline recommendations support the use of advanced imaging to identify select patients with salvageable brain tissue who may benefit from thrombolysis beyond the traditional treatment window. As these recommendations continue to evolve, pharmacists involved in acute stroke care must understand the evidence supporting extended-window thrombolysis, appropriate patient selection, and how factors such as imaging findings and eligibility for endovascular thrombectomy influence treatment decisions.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Review the pathophysiology and current treatment principles of acute ischemic stroke
2. Explain the evidence supporting tissue-based selection for IV thrombolysis using advanced neuroimaging
3. Identify appropriate candidates for thrombolysis in the extended treatment window based on current evidence and guideline recommendations.
