Date & Time of Session - 11/20/25 - from 12-1PM

Overview
Cyanokit (hydroxocobalamin) was the most common medication used to treat vasoplegia at UofL Health until a shortage occurred in November of 2024. Methylene blue and thiamine are alternatives that are used to treat vasoplegia. Vasoplegia, or vasoplegia syndrome, is a complex condition that may occur after cardiopulmonary bypass surgeries and can be difficult to treat. An in-depth review of primary literature and guidelines used to treat vasoplegia is critical for pharmacists to understand medication options available to treat patients.

 Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe the pathophysiology and etiology of vasoplegia
2. Review the mechanisms of action of methylene blue, hydroxocobalamin, and thiamine when treating vasoplegia.
3. Investigate the literature and benefits of using agents to treat vasoplegia
4. Develop an appropriate treatment regimen for vasoplegia
