Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting (KASPER): A General Overview

There is a need for healthcare professionals in Kentucky to deepen their understanding and usage of the KASPER system due to the growing complexities of prescription drug regulations and the necessity to manage at-risk patients effectively. This training aims to enhance familiarity with KASPER’s framework, improve proficiency in navigating its tools, and strengthen the ability to interpret relevant data and DEA responsibilities. By addressing these needs, this presentation will empower healthcare providers to better comply with legal standards and enhance patient care within the scope of prescription drug monitoring.

Target Audience

The target audience for this course includes physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, nurses, and any other individuals who participate in the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders and sustained recovery.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand KASPER's Framework and Regulatory Environment:
  2. Explain the purpose and composition of KASPER.
  3. Identify and locate relevant Kentucky regulations and statutes.
  4. Describe the data reported to KASPER, including exclusions.
  5. Learn KASPER Tools and Usage:
  6. Navigate the Kentucky Online Gateway/KASPER Portal effectively.
  7. Apply critical tools such as the Reverse KASPER Report and Prescriber Report Card.
  8. Apply clinical judgment to intervene with at-risk patients.
  9. Understand Relevant KASPER Data and Interpret DEA Responsibilities:
  10. Gain insights into KASPER Integration and Interstate Data Sharing initiatives.
  11. Interpret DEA responsibilities and the KASPER Quarterly Trend Report.
  12. Familiarize with relevant statistics concerning Kentucky.
