Nutrition Considerations in Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Receptor Agonists Therapies
GLP-1 Receptor Agonist (GLP-1RA) Therapies are increasingly used. However, rapid weight loss can increase the risk of various nutritional concerns that may not be addressed when prescribed.
Nutritional considerations should be addressed at the initiation of GLP-1RA Therapy and throughout treatment.
Target Audience
The target audience for this course includes physicians, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, and dietitians.
Learning Objectives
After completing this educational activity, learners will be able to:
- Describe mechanism of action and treatment efficacy for GLP-1RA
- Explain nutrition risk factors in GLP-1RA therapy, including side effects, loss of lean body, and nutrient deficiencies
- Apply basic principles of nutrition to address side effects, loss of lean body mass, and nutrient deficiences
