Rhea Vidrine, MD

Rhea M. Vidrine, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Kentucky Children’s Hospital, University of Kentucky. She provides care for critically ill neonates, children, and young adults in both the PICU and Pediatric Cardiac ICU (PCICU), while leading a dedicated multidisciplinary team focused on delivering the highest quality care.
Dr. Vidrine recently completed her Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, furthering her expertise in systems improvement and patient safety. She has been instrumental in driving institutional initiatives to improve outcomes for children, including the development of evidence-based sepsis recognition and treatment protocols, the standardization of ICU liberation practices, and the implementation of structured handoff procedures to reduce errors and improve communication. As PICU Quality and Safety Leader, she oversees morbidity and mortality reviews, quality dashboards, and multiple improvement projects aimed at reducing hospital-acquired conditions and enhancing patient outcomes. Her research and academic contributions center on quality improvement and patient safety, with a focus on pediatric sepsis care, reducing unsafe transfers, and decreasing code events in the PICU.
