Leslie Scott, PhD, APRN, PPCNP-BC, MLDE, CDCES, FAANP, FADCES

Dr. Leslie K. Scott is an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and a board-certified Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner at the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center. She has dedicated more than 35 years to diabetes care and education and more than 25 years to the care of children and adolescents with diabetes.
Dr. Scott holds certifications as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and Master Licensed Diabetes Educator (MLDE) and is recognized as a Fellow of both the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) and the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (FADCES). Her clinical practice focuses on pediatric endocrinology and diabetes management, including type 1 diabetes, diabetes technology, obesity, insulin resistance, transition of care, and diabetes management in school settings.
At the University of Kentucky, Dr. Scott serves as coordinator for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner BSN-DNP tracks and teaches advanced pediatric assessment and primary care management. Her scholarly work has focused extensively on pediatric diabetes, childhood obesity, diabetes self-management, school-based diabetes care, and improving outcomes for children living with chronic endocrine conditions. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations related to pediatric diabetes management, diabetes technology, and diabetes care across community and school settings.
Dr. Scott currently leads statewide initiatives focused on improving diabetes care and safety for children in Kentucky schools through the development of innovative online, on-demand training programs for school personnel. Supported through multiple grants from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the Kentucky Department for Public Health, these programs aim to improve diabetes knowledge, emergency preparedness, and equitable access to safe diabetes care for children throughout the state.
In addition to her academic and clinical roles, Dr. Scott has been deeply involved in advocacy and community service for children with diabetes. She has served in leadership roles with the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists, the American Diabetes Association School Advocacy Program, and Kentucky diabetes organizations, and has been an active medical provider and leader for Camp Hendon, Kentucky’s diabetes camp for children. Her contributions to pediatric diabetes care, education, and advocacy have been recognized through numerous national, state, and local awards.
