Irada Ibrahim-zada, MD, PhD, FACS, FSSO

Dr. Irada Ibrahim-Zada is a board-certified surgical oncologist and Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center. She brings extensive international training and multidisciplinary expertise in the treatment of breast and skin cancers, with a strong focus on expanding access to innovative therapies through clinical trials.
Originally from Azerbaijan, Dr. Ibrahim-Zada earned her medical degree from Azerbaijan Medical University. She completed general surgery residency training at the University of Colorado and pursued subspecialty training in Complex General Surgical Oncology through a fellowship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (University of Rochester) in New York.
In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Ibrahim-Zada holds a PhD in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology from the University of Toronto, where her research focused on breast cancer pharmacogenetics. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in breast cancer pharmacogenomics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Ibrahim-Zada is deeply committed to serving underserved communities and improving outcomes for patients with locally advanced and metastatic breast and skin cancers. In her current work in cutaneous oncology, she focuses on the management of advanced metastatic melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma, with a particular interest in de-escalating surgical interventions and promoting multidisciplinary, patient-centered care.
