ForwardKY MARK: BASC-3 Practicalities
The Kentucky Mental Health Care Access for Resiliency in Kids Program ensures that pediatric primary care and other providers working with children are confident and competent in screening and helping children with behavioral conditions. This training will increase the providers' knowledge and skills, resulting in earlier identification, diagnosis, and treatment for children with mild to moderate behavioral needs. Completing this educational series will advance the integration of children's behavioral health and pediatric primary care.
This session provides primary care providers steps in assessment and interpretation of the BASC-3 screening tool for use in early identification of mental/behavioral health disorders in childhood and adolescence.
Target Audience
The target audience of Kentucky Mental Health Care Access for Resiliency in Kids Program includes physicians, nurses, and public health professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify steps in assessment using the BASC-3.
2. Identify steps in the interpretation of the BASC-3.
3. Identify resources for guidance in BASC-3 administration and interpretation.
Upon completion of this educational series, participants will be able to:
1. Diagnose pediatric mental health disorders.
2. Treat pediatric mental health disorders.
3. Manage pediatric mental health disorders.

Dr. Briggs is an Associate Professor and Licensed Psychologist in the division of Adolescent Medicine at UK Healthcare. In this role, she has worked to improve systems of care for adolescent patients in schools and in clinic, analyze risk behavior screening data for adolescents to inform future interventions, and support the development of future psychologists through clinical supervision. Prior to her current role, she was a school psychologist at Lincoln County High School in Stanford, KY. Throughout her career, Dr. Briggs has sought to lead efforts to promote the well-being of adolescents through equitable and accessible service-delivery.
