ForwardKY MARK: Early Identification and Referral
The Kentucky Mental Health Care Access for Resiliency in Kids Program ensures that pediatric primary care and other providers working with children are confident and competent in screening and helping children with behavioral conditions. This training will increase the providers' knowledge and skills, resulting in earlier identification, diagnosis, and treatment for children with mild to moderate behavioral needs. Completing this educational series will advance the integration of children's behavioral health and pediatric primary care.
Target Audience
The target audience of Kentucky Mental Health Care Access for Resiliency in Kids Program includes physicians, nurses, and public health professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the benefits of early identification, developmental monitoring, and early intervention services.
2. Review developmental milestones in children ages 0-5.
3. Recognize early intervention services in the area.
Upon completion of this educational series, participants will be able to:
1. Diagnose pediatric mental health disorders.
2. Treat pediatric mental health disorders.
3. Manage pediatric mental health disorders.

Andrea McPhillips, LCSW, works in the Early Childhood Department at NorthKey Community Care as a Behavioral Health Specialist and an Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist for the Northern Bluegrass Region. Ms. McPhillips is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned her master’s degree in Social Work from Northern Kentucky University. Ms. McPhillips has worked in early childhood mental health for four years.

Whitney Smith, MA, LPCC-S, is the Team Leader of Early Childhood Services at NorthKey Community Care. Ms. Smith is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Supervisor, as well as the Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist for the Northern Bluegrass Region. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. Ms. Smith has been working with young children and families for almost 10 years. She has extensive community partnerships working to enhance the social-emotional development of young children and the overall well-being of families.
