Objectives
1) Review Current approaches to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance, including patient selection, imaging modalities, and emerging surveillance strategies.
2) Evaluate the role of biomarkers in HCC detection, and risk stratification, including emerging blood-based and molecular biomarkers.
3) Discuss emerging and evolving treatments for HCC, including novel systemic therapies, combination strategies, and approaches to personalized treatment
Disclosure of Financial Interest Summary
All planners, faculty, and others in control of educational content are required to disclose all their financial relationships with ineligible companies within the prior 24 months. An ineligible company is defined as one whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients. Financial relationships are relevant if the educational content an individual can control is related to the business lines or products of the ineligible company.
Neehar Parikh, MD, MS, FAASLD is a consultantt for Exelixis & Fujifilm Medical, Exact Science; Research Funding: Bayer , Genutech, Exact Sciense, Glycotest
All of the relevant financial relationships listed for these individuals have been mitigated. No other speakers, authors, planners or content reviewers have any relevent financial relationships to disclose.
The matierial presented in this course represents information obtained from scientific literature as well as the clinical experiences of the speakers. In some cases, the presentations might include a discussion of investigational agents and/or off-label indications for various agents used in clinical practise. Speakers will inform the audience when they are discussing investigational and/or off-label uses.
Content review confirmed that the content was developed in a fair, balanced manner free from commerical bias. Disclosure of a realtionship is not intended to suggest or condone commerical bias in any persentation, but it is made to provide paticipants with information that might be of potential importance to their evaluation of a presentation.
Need/Practise Gap & Supporting Resources
Why does the problem exist? Despite advances in HCC surveillance, biomarkers & treatment, many patients are still diagnosed late, when curative options are limited. Suveillance remains imperfect, current biomarkers lack sufficient accuracy for early detection, and treatment options are rapdily evolving without having clear guidance on which patients benefit most from which therapy.
What do I want to change?
I want clinicians to move toward earlier, more accurate detection and more personalized treament of HCC using better surveillance strategies and biomarkers to identify cancer treatment earlier while leveraging emerging therapies to match the right treatemnt strategy to the right patient.
