There is a tendency to over focus on single drug use and problems, e.g., “opioids” and “opioid overdose”. There is a need to focus more on polysubstance use and problems.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, first responders, public health professionals and students, and other interested healthcare or public health professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the epidemiology and time trends in drug overdose mortality in the US
- State 2 possible reasons for the rise in stimulant deaths
- Discuss the qualitative perspectives on opioid and stimulant co-use
