Overview
As a healthcare worker, everyone will make mistakes. We are human and it’s in our nature. How we address and help those during this time of need can make the difference between surviving or thriving after an error. This presentation will discuss the concepts of just culture, second victims, and strategies to use to help those experiencing second victim syndrome.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Define the concept of the second victims
2. Explain how Just Culture principles support well-being
3. Identify the 3 outcomes that can occur with second victims
4. Apply practical strategies leaders and peers can use to recognize, support, and refer second victims
