Evaluation and Treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia in Children

Iron Deficiency and Iron Deficiency related anemia is the most common hematologic pathology encountered by pediatricians. Most pediatricians are unsure of the correct diagnostic and treatment approach to correct iron deficiency. New guidelines from the AAP were issued this year to guide the universal screening and diagnosis of iron deficiency in toddlers and adolescents. New diagnostic criteria for iron deficiency are recommended by ASH and this information will substantially change how and who we treat iron deficiency in children and adolescents.
