Beacons of Hope: Discussing Naloxone with Patients

Current primary care practice sites are ripe with patients who may need naloxone as a reversal agent to be used in the event of an opioid overdose or emergency. Primary care providers need additional education and information on how to adequately speak with their patients about the use of naloxone for opioid overdose or emergencies.

Healthcare professionals in a primary care setting.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, learners will be able to:
1. Describe what Narcan® (naloxone) is in basic terms to your patients.
2. Explain Narcan’s® (naloxone’s) basic use and place in therapy for patients.
3. Discuss with patients the three broad steps of opioid overdose response with Narcan® (naloxone).
4. Discuss how to obtain Narcan® (naloxone) and some general regulations for access with patients.
