Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe total pain as a rehabilitative framework and explain how Saunders's clinical methods anticipate modern chronic pain science.
- Apply the rehabilitative elements of total pain to the evaluation and treatment of complex chronic pain.
- Distinguish the roles of biographical narrative, transdisciplinary care, and symptom management as a doorway — not a destination — in chronic pain treatment.
- Recognize the parallel between the abandonment of dying patients in the 1950s and the abandonment of patients with "incurable" chronic pain today, and articulate a rehabilitative response.
