2022 HRS - Recovery Capital: Assets, Not Abstinence

Healthcare teams lack awareness and knowledge about harm reduction services, including 1) prevention and response efforts, 2) available resources, 3) promising practices, 4) disease testing and prevention, 5) addiction and recovery services, 6) local and state partnerships, and 7) the current status of the drug overdose epidemic.

Target Audience

The target audience for this lecture includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, public health professionals, attorneys, peer support specialists, certified alcohol & drug counselors, community health workers, registered environmental health specialists/registered sanitarians, and any others who might be involved in harm reduction or the treatment of substance use disorders.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Define addiction as a chronic disorder.
2. Discuss recovery as a process of change.
3. Identify recovery capital in one's community.
4. Compare similarities between Recovery and Harm Reduction.
