Paula Holbrook, RN, BHS, JD, CPHRM, is Associate Director, Medical Risk Management, and Senior Associate General Counsel at UK HealthCare.   She is responsible for providing legal advice to staff and healthcare leadership in the areas of clinical risk management, patient safety and legal issues incidental to the provision of care, such as legal liability and analysis, and informed consent, as well as responding to state and federal agency requests, such as search warrants and subpoenas.  She has extensive legal and clinical experience, and prior to joining UK HealthCare in 2008, she was a former Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Attorney General and Assistant Counsel in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at the UK David Rosenberg College of Law, and the co-supervisor the UK HealthCare Risk Management Externship. She attended the University of Tennessee, received her RN Diploma from Fort Sanders School of Nursing, and received her BHS and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Kentucky.  In 2020, she was honored to have been selected for the UK College of Health Sciences Alumni Hall of Fame.  She is a member of the Kentucky and American Societies for HealthCare Risk Management, the Kentucky Association of Hospital Attorneys, American Health Lawyers Association and the Kentucky Bar Association.
