UK HealthCare recognizes the importance of end-of-life care to patients and their loved ones. Shifting the mindset from lifesaving to a comfort-focused plan of care can leave some nurses feeling uneasy regarding how best to communicate the level of care they are providing to their patients. This session explains the similarities and differences between hospice care and palliative care and the services provided by Bluegrass Care Navigators.

Dianna Madden, DNP, RN, has held a variety a nursing leadership roles since beginning her career in 2005. She has served as the Director for Quality, Risk, and Safety for several years until transitioning into the hospice space with Veterans Affairs (VA). Dianna always had a passion and interest for hospice, and it was at the VA that Dianna knew she had found her niche. Dianna left the VA to pursue hospice at an organizational level, and that is when she found Bluegrass Care Navigators. Dianna served as the Executive Director of Inpatient Hospice Services for 5 ½ years, where her service area expanded from Frankfort to Southeastern Kentucky. She is now the vice president of quality for Everent Health, where she will support organizations that provide hospice and serious illness care across the state of Kentucky.
