Tyler Sims, MD
Tyler C. Sims, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology, Bone and Mineral Metabolism and a board certified Internist and Nephrologist. Dr. Sims earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering before continuing to medical school at the University of Mississippi. He completed Internal Medicine residency at UKCOM in 2020 and was part of the Hospital Medicine track. He then completed Nephrology fellowship at UKCOM in 2022 before joining the faculty. Dr. Sims is part of the Internal Medicine Core Faculty which focuses on educating residents and fellows within the department and evaluates residency candidates. He won the Best New Faculty teaching award for the Department of Internal Medicine in his first year as an Attending physician (2023). He teaches first-year medical students in Introduction to Clinical Medicine and lectures in the second year Renal course as the Clinical Renal Course Director. He also formally mentors current Nephrology fellows. Dr. Sims divides his clinical duties between inpatient, outpatient, and rural-outpatient practice settings and is especially interested in exploring opportunities to improve student and patient education about kidney disease.
