Date & Time of Session - 1/27/26 - from 12:00 - 1:00PM
Overview
Pharmacogenomics is a well-studied, yet under utilized aspect of medical treatment. Despite several guidelines published by pharmacogenomic groups, a lack of uptake in implementing pharmacogenomics has been seen in many health systems due to various barriers like cost, reimbursement, unclear utilizations for certain drugs, education, and a lack of consensus on patient selection for testing. These reasons ultimately highlight the need to discuss some of the clinical applications of pharmacogenomics paired with literature surrounding its use in practice, while further addressing some of the barriers that limit its use.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Review the concept of personalized medicine and the role genetics play in drug response
2. Evaluate the clinical applications of pharmacogenomics with supporting literature
3. Discuss logistical issues with implementation of pharmacogenomics
