Date & Time of Session - 2/12/26 - from 12-1PM

Overview
Despite advances in pharmacology and evidence-based medicine, many long-held beliefs about drugs effects, indications, and practice patterns persist and are perpetuated due to factors such as tradition, anecdotal evidence, and selective reading. These narratives can drive prescribing, patient counseling, and formulary decisions even when high-quality evidence is lacking or evolving, risking unnecessary therapies, adverse effects, higher costs, and slower adoption of better practices. Pharmacists, as trusted medication experts, have a responsibility to scrutinize common beliefs and communicate uncertainty effectively.

This lecture aims to equip pharmacists with systematic methods to distinguish belief from evidence, apply healthy skepticism when confronted with medication-related concerns, and implement updates in formulary decisions and patient counseling. By challenging enduring myths and reinforcing evidence-based medicine, participants can enhance patient safety, optimize therapy, and strengthen the credibility of pharmaceutical care.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify long-held pharmacologic beliefs that are not supported by high-quality evidence
2. Discuss why dogma is perpetuated, despite low quality evidence
3. Review practical steps that can be taken to minimize misinformation in clinical practice
