Date & Time of Session - 11/17/25 - from 12:00 - 1:00 PM
Needs/Overview
The escalating threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly from multidrug-resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa, demands continuous mastery of our newest therapeutic options. Given the increase in hospital utilization of agents such as Zerbaxa and Avycaz, it is imperative that all pharmacists are proficient in the rationale and appropriate use of these crucial antibiotics. This Grand Rounds presentation is designed to address this educational need by providing a robust, evidence-based platform for pharmacists practicing across the full continuum of care. We will meticulously review the mechanisms of resistance that these drugs overcome, thereby justifying their specific use against challenging strains. Crucially, the presentation will provide an in-depth analysis of the key approval trials and current clinical guidelines for treating complicated MDR P. aeruginosa infections. Pharmacists will leave with a clear understanding of when and how to integrate these agents into patient care, thus minimizing resistance development. Ultimately, this session will enhance the pharmacist's role in delivering high-level antimicrobial stewardship and ensuring optimal, consistent patient care.
