Glenda Mutinda, PhD

Glenda Mueni Mutinda, PhD, is Co-Vice Chair of Well-Being and Director of Peer Support and Well-Being in the Department of Surgery at the University of Kentucky, where she partners with departmental leadership on faculty support infrastructure, professional development initiatives, and strategic planning. She brings a decade of cross-functional leadership at the intersection of clinical service, medical education, and organizational resilience.
Prior to joining UK, Dr. Mutinda served as Director of Interprofessional Well-Being at JPS Health Network, where she led the design and implementation of well-being curricula for physician and nurse residents, built a Second Victims'/Peer Support Program spanning 185 peer supporters, and guided her team through a successful Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) site visit. Her work has consistently focused on embedding well-being and resilience into the fabric of healthcare institutions while ensuring alignment with regulatory and accreditation standards from bodies such as ACGME, the Joint Commission, and CMS.
Dr. Mutinda holds a PhD in Medical Family Therapy from East Carolina University, an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and dual BA degrees in Psychology and African American Studies from the University of Iowa. She is a frequent national presenter on topics including burnout, resilience, generational differences in well-being, and innovative peer support models, with work featured at conferences including the ACGME Annual Education Conference, the Coalition for Physician Well-Being Joy and Wholeness Summit, and the Association for Hospital Medical Education.
