Shira Gurvitz Gambrel, MD, is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and a board-certified anesthesiologist. She completed her medical degree at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center–Shreveport and her anesthesiology residency at the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Gambrel has extensive experience in clinical anesthesiology, medical education, simulation, and perioperative quality and safety. She has served in multiple educational and leadership roles at the University of Kentucky. She also participates in institutional initiatives involving trauma peer review, transfusion review, perioperative safety, and quality improvement.

Her academic interests include simulation-based education, crisis resource management, perioperative leadership, and the management of complex and high-acuity surgical patients. She has contributed to numerous regional, national, and international presentations and publications and has received multiple awards recognizing her work in education, curriculum development, and mentorship.
