Healthcare providers encounter Plain people in diverse practice settings. This course is designed to give you insight into the unique culture of Plain people and how to best provide healthcare for them. Providers who understand the culture can adapt their communication to increase understanding and shared-decision making.
Target Audience
Healthcare providers who care for members of the Plain community. While this course is applicable to all members of the healthcare community, credit will only be provided for physicians, nurses, social workers, and health educators.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the historical background and culture of Plain people
2. Recognize barriers to health care experienced by Plain people
3. Identify common health issues and concerns of Plain people
4. Apply principles of cultural humility to select appropriate interventions when providing care to Plain people
