Dr. Van Sickels grew up in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas, Austin, he was accepted into the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, Kentucky. Following graduation, he was accepted into internal medicine residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. After his chief resident year, he remained at Tulane for Infectious Diseases Fellowship, and transitioned to become a faculty member in the infectious diseases section through 2016. He then served as the Chief Medical Officer at CrescentCare, a Federally Qualified Health Center in New Orleans, through 2022. In August of 2022 he returned to Lexington, where he has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the University of Kentucky. He loves working with colleagues in public health to improve systems of care for people across the Commonwealth.
