A. Personal Statement
After spending 24 years in private OB/GYN practice in rural areas of Tennessee and Illinois, I have had the opportunity to join the faculty at the University of Kentucky as a member of the Laborist division in the fall of 2022. My passion for co-professional education, team- building, and applying evidence informed practice has found a home at UK. My practice years in Illinois helped me to develop a vision for coordination of regional perinatal centers with rural practice focusing on education, case review, and emergency simulation training. In my small rural institution, we were able to develop robust in-situ L and D simulation curriculum, monthly fetal hear tracing reviews, and larger coordinated simulations with the Emergency Department and EMS. We were able to involve caregivers and learners at all levels promoting co-professional education during quarterly M and M conferences attended by regional maternal fetal medicine and neonatal specialists. After receiving the benefits of regional perinatal involvement while practicing in a rural setting, it is exciting to now be able to facilitate similar support for providers in the rural areas of the Commonwealth.
