Christina Leyson, MD

Christina D. Leyson, MD is a Professor of Medicine and transplant hepatologist at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. She completed fellowship training in gastroenterology at the University of Kentucky and in transplant hepatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Hepatology.
Dr. Leyson serves as Medical Director of the Liver Transplant Program and Program Director of the ACGME Transplant Hepatology Fellowship at the University of Kentucky. Her work spans clinical care, fellowship education, transplant program leadership, and academic scholarship.
Her clinical and research interests focus on alcohol-associated hepatitis, liver transplantation, healthcare delivery, portal hypertension and medical education. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and national presentations addressing alcohol-associated liver disease, cirrhosis management, transplant outcomes, and innovations in hepatology care delivery.
An active educator and frequent invited speaker, Dr. Leyson has presented for university, regional, and CME-accredited programs on a range of hepatology and transplant-related topics. She is deeply committed to trainee education, mentorship, and the advancement of multidisciplinary liver care. She has also been recognized for her contributions to mentorship and education, including the Faculty Mentorship Award from the Department of Internal Medicine in March 2026.
