I began my healthcare career in 1993 after graduating with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and accepting a position at the VA Medical Center on Cooper Drive. I soon transitioned to the Medical ICU at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where I continued to develop my clinical skills and experience. In 2000, I graduated from the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Kentucky.

Shortly after graduation, I was hired by Lexington Clinic to help establish a new service line called Hospital Medicine. Within a year, another physician and I decided to establish our own practice, Hospital Medicine Associates. After eventually deciding to dissolve the practice, I accepted a position with a local group of primary care providers, where I helped launch another Hospital Medicine program.

After several years, Dr. Tadarro Richardson and I were approached by a local physician group, Marshall Emergency Services Associates (MESA), to help develop a regional Hospital Medicine program. I was appointed Director of Hospital Medicine Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, where I was responsible for helping lead and expand the program.

In 2013, MESA was acquired by TeamHealth. During my time with TeamHealth, I served as Regional Director within the Lifepoint Division, overseeing Emergency Medicine and Hospital Medicine Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). I also served on the National APP Council, first as a member and later as National Chairperson.

In this role, I helped standardize supervisory guidelines for APPs, develop APP-only emergency departments and hospital medicine programs, and navigate the significant challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences provided me with valuable opportunities to contribute to the growth, development, and standardization of advanced practice provider programs on a broader scale.

In 2021, as COVID-19 cases began to decline, I decided to leave TeamHealth and accepted a position with the Hospital Medicine Division at the University of Kentucky.
