My research is focused on mechanisms of renal development and injury in preterm infants, as well as long-term consequences of AKI in this group. Understanding the risk factors and mechanisms of neonatal renal injury, as well as providing better diagnostic and prognostic stratification through novel biomarkers, allow better monitoring for infants at risk for developing Chronic Kidney Disease and set the ground for potential therapeutic interventional trials. I am also interested in the role of ‘omics’ for developing precision medicine in neonatology to be applied for diagnostic purposes and monitoring disease progression and/or response to treatment.
