Jeff Young, Jeff Young MD

Dr. Young graduated AOA from the Medical College of Virginia in 1988. He completed a general surgery residency and trauma fellowship under Wayne Meredith at Wake Forest North Carolina Baptist Hospital in 1994 and took the position of Trauma Medical Director at the University of Virginia in July of that year.
Clinically, he is Professor of Surgery at UVA and has held the positions of Chief Quality Officer, Chief Patient Safety Officer, Associate Chief of Staff, and Director of the Surgical Trauma ICU and has been TMD at UVA since 1994. UVA has undergone three successful ACS verifications with no deficiencies and strengths in PI in each visit.
He is former Virginia COT chair, President of the Virginia Chapter of the COT, Region III COT chief, and member of the National COT and was a member of the VRC for 26 years. In that time, he has participated in over 220 ACS site visits (Levels I, II, III and pediatric I and II) and has been a lead reviewer for over 20 years. He has performed over 25 virtual visits and several under the new criteria. He was lead in several chapters in the latest addition of the Optimal Resources Document and participated in the creation of the new DMEP course. He also was one of the originators of the Optimal Trauma Center Organization and Management Course and continues as an instructor. He has also been a reviewer for Oregon, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. He has authored two texts: “Trauma Centers: A Quick Guide” and “Trauma Center Performance Improvement” published by Springer.
He has published over 90 peer reviewed articles and has over 200 presentations on trauma care and trauma centers. He also has a podcast and website “Clinical Brain Training” and clinicalbraintrianing.com that has many lectures on trauma center operations and clinical trauma care.
