Anne Sayers, Associate Professor MD FHM FACP

Anne E. Sayers is a proud sixth- generation Kentuckian who grew up in Northern Kentucky. She attended the University of Kentucky for her undergraduate education, graduating with a BS in Biology and a BA in English in 1998. She worked in the Markey Cancer Center doing research briefly before attending medical school at the University of Kentucky. She moved to Indianapolis after medical school to complete her Internal Medicine residency at Indiana University, and remained in Indianapolis for 2 years to work as a hospitalist at St Vincent Hospital. She returned to the University of Kentucky in 2008 and has been on faculty as a hospitalist since that time. Over this time she has been involved in multiple varied projects from helping the cystic fibrosis program to working with the inpatient Addiction Medicine service. She has a particular interest in the inpatient care of patients with malignancy and spends most of her clinical time now working with those admitted to the inpatient oncology or hematology co-management teams. She has been the faculty advisor for the Internal Medicine Interest Group at UK for more than a decade and enjoys helping students explore the many doors that Internal Medicine residency opens. She has also been involved in education of advanced practice providers, lecturing at the School for Physician Assistants and assisting with the APP residency for the division of hospital medicine. She serves as the chair for journal club and Hospital Medicine Grand Rounds and has enjoyed adding to the education of her peers through these efforts. She was a founding member of the Kentucky Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine and has been involved at both the local and national level of SHM. Recently Dr. Sayers accepted a position as the Utilization Review Officer for the University of Kentucky. In her free time she enjoys reading, gardening, travelling especially internationally, visiting amusement parks and especially loves spending time with her family, including a very affectionate goldendoodle named Chloe, a fascinating pet axolotl, and an energetic and curious son who attends a Spanish-immersion school. She also speaks Spanish, and has done medical missions in 9 countries and hopes to take her son along when he is a bit older.
