Deborah Carey, DSW, CSW, OSW-C, is a Quality & Education Coordinator for the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Network (MCN). In this role, she provides comprehensive support, training, and guidance to Commission on Cancer–accredited facilities across Kentucky, advancing quality standards and enhancing oncology care delivery statewide.

Prior to joining MCN, Dr. Carey served as both manager and oncology social worker for the Lake Cumberland Cancer Treatment Center at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky. She brings more than 30 years of experience across children’s mental health, hospice care and oncology, with a career grounded in patient advocacy, program development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Her research interests focus on reducing barriers to clinical trial access and advancing the role and impact of oncology social work. Dr. Carey contributes to the field nationally through service on the Association of Oncology Social Work’s Communication Committee and the Application Committee for the Board of Oncology Social Work Certification.

Passionate about building sustainable community resources, Dr. Carey is dedicated to improving patient outcomes, supporting facility needs, and strengthening the unique strengths and capabilities of every program she serves.
