Non-Cardiac Point-of-Care Ultrasound Conference and Workshop (POCUS)

Lexington, KY US
May 2, 2026

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has become an essential tool in contemporary medical practice and education. It is a safe, efficient, and versatile imaging modality that provides real-time clinical information at the bedside. POCUS can be performed quickly, at any time of day, and supports timely decision-making by guiding appropriate interventions for individual patients. After the completion of this conference, participants will be able to: Differentiate the indications and limitations of lung, gastric, and non-gastric abdominal pocus, Compare normal and pathological ultrasound findings across lung, gastric, and non-gastric abdominal POCUS, Demonstrate the acquisition and optimization of high-quality POCUS images, and Integrate POCUS findings into bedside clinical decision-making.

Target Audience

Physician Anesthesiologists and Intensivists

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to
1. Describe fundamental ultrasound knobology and core principles of ultrasound physics.
2. Demonstrate optimized ultrasound image acquisition and image quality using fundamental ultrasound concepts and basic physics.
3. Describe the role and limitations of gastric ultrasound for aspiration risk assessment in the perioperative setting.
4. Perform gastric ultrasound for assessment of aspiration risk related to gastric contents.
5. Outline the role and limitations of FAST and RUSH abdominal ultrasound examinations in perioperative assessment and management.
6. Perform FAST and RUSH abdominal ultrasound examinations in the perioperative setting.
