Overview
Antimicrobial Stewardship Lecture Series sessions are designed to expose providers, nurses, and pharmacists to the most up to date literature surrounding infectious diseases. The aim is to improve UofL Health prescribing practices to better suit patient outcomes and hospital metrics pertaining to antimicrobial stewardship, including rates of hospital-acquired Clostridioides difficile infections and 2023 Joint Commission standards. This lecture will explore the fundamentals of appropriate antimicrobial and diagnostic test utilization. By optimizing utilization of these, effective care for patients with infections can be provided while avoiding undue costs and adverse effects..
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Define antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship
2. Describe the purpose behind antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship programs and efforts
3. Review optimization strategies for general antimicrobial and diagnostic test utilization
