Ritesh Kumar, MD

I am an Assistant Professor of Radiation Medicine at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, with academic experience in radiation oncology across international and U.S. institutions. My clinical focus includes genitourinary and gynecologic malignancies, with expertise in advanced image-guided radiotherapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), brachytherapy, and proton therapy. My training spans PGIMER Chandigarh, AIIMS New Delhi, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and the University of Kentucky.
My research integrates clinical outcomes, translational science, and health services research to advance precision and patient-centered radiation oncology. I have authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications addressing imaging biomarkers, radiomics-genomics, treatment intensification strategies, toxicity mitigation, and disparities in cancer care, particularly in cervical, prostate, lung, and gastrointestinal cancers. My work has been recognized with the RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award and the ROBIN Young Scientist Exchange Program Award, and I serve on editorial boards for multiple oncology journals.
My long-term goal is to lead investigator-initiated, multidisciplinary trials that integrate imaging-based biomarkers, patient-reported outcomes, and equity-focused interventions to improve cancer outcomes, especially in underserved populations.
