Date & Time of Session - 4/17/26 - from 12:00 - 1:00PM

Overview
The rising cost of prescription medications in the United States represents a critical and persistent challenge for patients, providers, and the broader healthcare system. Over the past decade, increases in drug prices—particularly for brand-name and specialty medications—have contributed significantly to unsustainable healthcare spending and have created substantial barriers to patient access and adherence. Given these challenges, there is a clear need for pharmacists to understand the key drivers of drug pricing and how to help patients get access to their medications.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Describe how the U.S. pharmaceutical pricing system functions
2. Identify key manufacturer strategies used to maintain high drug prices
3. Explain the role of payers and intermediaries in sustaining high costs
