Date & Time of Session - 9/30/25 - from 12:00 - 1:00PM

Overview
Cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in oncology, with patients experiencing a markedly higher risk of both recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) and bleeding compared to the general population. Anticoagulation is the standard of care, but management is complicated by thrombocytopenia, which commonly results from chemotherapy, bone marrow involvement, or other cancer-related factors. This creates a clinical dilemma, as limited trial data exist to guide anticoagulation in patients with low platelet counts, and current recommendations rely largely on expert opinion. Given the frequency and complexity of these situations, there is a pressing need to clarify best practices, synthesize available evidence, and provide practical guidance to help clinicians balance thrombosis and bleeding risks in thrombocytopenic cancer patients.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Review the epidemiology and pathophysiology of cancer-associated thrombus
2. Discuss current strategies for VTE prophylaxis and treatment in cancer patients
3. Outline the management of cancer associated thrombus in the setting of thrombocytopenia

Target Audience
Pharmacists, residents, and students
