Overview
HLH is fairly uncommon and there may be a gap in knowledge of how to diagnosis and treat among pharmacists. HLH occurs not only in cancer patients but can also occur for other reasons and may be severe enough to land a patient in the ICU, therefore any pharmacist may come across the disease state while staffing. There has been an increase in cases at St. Elizabeth, as there have been at least 2 cases in the past year. The goal is to discuss treatment of HLH and interventions that pharmacists may be able to make regarding treatment.
Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the pathophysiology of HLH
2. Recognize the criteria for diagnosis of HLH
3. Select appropriate treatment options for HLH
4. Apply our discussion of HLH to a patient case
