Jennifer Garcia, MD

Dr. Jennifer Garcia serves as the Medical Director of Adult and Pediatric Intestinal Transplantation, Intestinal Rehabilitation and all Pediatric Transplant Service Lines a the Miami Transplant Institute (MTI), a collaborative program between the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
A Miami native of Cuban decent, Dr. Garcia obtained her Batchelor of Science from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and her Medical Degree from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. She then returned to her naïve Miami and completed her Residency in Pediatrics and Fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Jackson Memorial Hospital-University of Miami. It was during her fellowship that her passion for transplant medicine blossomed. She joined the faculty at MTI in 2010 and in 2013, given her specialized expertise, became involved with the Adult Intestinal Rehabilitation and Transplant Program which she now leads.
Dr. Garcia's main research interest includes novel immunosuppression strategies to optimize long term outcomes post-intestine transplant while minimizing co-morbidities, graft versus host disease (GVHD) and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD). Her passion and expertise in the care of intestinal failure and transplantation has been recognized by her colleagues, and as such, she is an avid lecturer both nationally and internationally. In addition to her clinical and academic work, Dr. Garcia has received recognition including Best Doctors and several teaching awards. She has also served on UNOS Pediatric Transplant Committee.
